1. Deacon Daniel Leetch has been appointed as Director for Permanent Deacons of the Diocese of Pueblo, serving at the Bishop’s discretion, in collaboration with the Vicar for Clergy. This appointment is effective August 4, 2017 and remains in effect for an indeterminate period of time, or until revoked.

St. John Neumann celebrates 40th anniversary

The National Catholic Youth Conference will be held in Indianapolis from Thursday, November 16 through Saturday, November 19. It will be an experience you will never forget. Imagine 24,000 young people expressing their Catholic faith all together. There are large general sessions with awesome speakers and musicians as well as break-out sessions.

Sister Carol Tlach, ND 50th jubilee

Sister Carol Tlach, ND celebrated her 50th Jubilee of religious profession with the Notre Dame Sisters on July 23, in Omaha, Neb. Elementary education and care for senior citizens have filled Sister Carol’s 50 years of ministry. She received a bachelor’s degree from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Building a vibrant parish community one conversation at a time

Staff members from Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Grand Junction returned from the diocese’s 2017 Spring Study Days filled with ideas to incrementally revitalize their parish. The theme of this year’s Study Days was “Forming Intentional Disciples” led by Sherry Weddell. Knowing that the challenge will take some time to realize, they nevertheless put small changes into motion, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead the transformation.

Diocesan Hispanic Ministry Congreso a success in Gunnison

This past June 24-25, around 300 Catholics from across the Diocese of Pueblo gathered at the Gunnison County Western Heritage Center to celebrate the 75th Anniversary with the first Diocesan Hispanic Ministry Congreso (Congress) as part of the National Hispanic Ministry “V Encuentro” process. Bishop Stephen Berg joined children, guest speakers, youth, musicians, diocesan staff and clergy for a weekend filled with formation and prayer, while surrounded by God’s beautiful creation in Gunnison.

Gallegos150pxReverend Joseph L. Gallegos: 1939 - 2017

Reverend Joseph L. (Larry) Gallegos was born on April 9, 1939 in Anton Chico, New Mexico to Julian and Eloisa Gallegos. Fr. Gallegos passed away Friday, June 9, 2017.

Father Gallegos's family moved to Denver, Colorado, when he was about eight years old. He was educated earlier in his life at Sacred Heart Catholic School and Regis High School. He entered the Theatine Order in September 1959 and made his first profession of vows on September 15, 1965.

The Catholic Foundation hosts fundraising dinner with Bishop Berg

The Catholic Foundation recently hosted its second “An Evening with Bishop Stephen J. Berg” fundraising dinner within a year. The event took place on July 7 at the Waterfront Banquet Hall, and it marked the first dinner of its kind in Pueblo since 2010. About 60 guests joined Bishop Berg for dinner and fellowship, including current and former board members, clergy and Knights of Columbus.

Colorado welcomes ACTS retreat

While not new to the rest of the country, the first “ACTS” retreats were held in the Diocese of Pueblo this summer at Immaculate Heart of Mary / Pope John Paul II Parish in Pagosa Springs. These retreats also mark the first of their kind in the state of Colorado. The men’s retreat was held August 10 to 13 and the women’s retreat August 17 to 20, both sponsored by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and missioned by Prince of Peace in Albuquerque, N.M.
